When I heard the new DSi was coming out, it was never in my plans to purchase one. I had a Lite and it did did the job well enough. Plus the loss of a GBA slot and the extra features really weren’t worth the $170 price tag.
But as fate would have it, that all changed one night.
As I was browsing through Craigslist a few days ago, I saw a listing for a new DSi for $120! I thought how could I pass this up? It would give me a chance to try it out, and if I didn’t like it, I could always sell it for what I paid. So I contacted the seller, and we agreed to meet at a local college campus at 5:30. I leave my work right at 5 on the dot and get there at 5:30 sharp. I wait, and about 15 minutes later, I give the guy a call. He says he’s on his way from work still and he would be another 15 minutes. Another 15 minutes pass, still nothing. So I call again, but no answer. At this point I’m like, screw it and I leave.
Later that night I give him a call up, and some other guy answers his phone. I ask where his “friend” was. Guy tells me his buddy couldn’t meet me because of other obligations. He didn’t seem too worried about selling it to me, so I wasn’t too worried about buying it.
With the thought of getting a DSi out of my head, it was time to move on, or so I thought. I browse craigslist later that night. To my surprise, I find another listing for a DSi for just $110! I jump into action and call the seller up. He says everything is complete and brand new. It sounded a little too good to be true for the price, but I thought why not try. We agree to meet up the next day at a local mall parking lot at 5:30. Again, I leave work at 5 and get there a little before 5:30. Now I’m worried this guy won’t show up. But what do you know, about 10 minutes later, the guy does show up. He gets out of his truck with just a black DSi. No box, charger, anything. He tells me he forgot the charger (right) and all he had was the DSi. He then tells me he’ll cut $10 off the price if I buy it.
At this point, I know this thing is more then likely hot, but I’m there, I have the money, and it’s cheap. He lets me check it out, and I can clearly see everything works right and the system itself is in mint condition. So I hand the cash over, shake his hand, and drive on home.
On the way back to the house, a dilema hits me. I have a DSi, but no charger. My old DS Lite charger won’t work, and niether will any of my previous DS or GBA chargers. Now I have to go out and buy a charger, but since the system is so new, I’m not even sure they have any at the moment.
Though luckily old Gamestop had a charger for cheap, so I bought it.
But there’s more to this story. After I picked up the charger, I look around a bit. Though I never imaged what I would find. I found something much better then just a DSi charger. Something I’ve wanted for awhile and for dirt cheap. What is it? Check back tomorrow for part two of this exciting melodrama.
