Mushihimesama what now?

Posted by Brian On September - 28 - 2009

Life is now complete

So quick rundown, Cave is this super sweet and sexy company who creates the most amazing shoot em ups (shmups). In fact we reviewed a shmup of theirs, ESP Galuda, in our third episode of Substance TV. The Xbox 360 has been the lucky recipient of Cave’s newest shmups. As great as this all is, shmup fanatics in the States get the shaft and are either stuck with the hefty price tag of buying an import 360 or just sitting there in sorrow and misery.

But, for some reason, the shmup gods have smiled upon us and are releasing the newest Cave shmup, Mushihimesama Futari Ver 1.5, region free. Meaning now we can import a copy and play it on our U.S. 360s with no problem. Cave will use the sales from this game as a barometer to gauge whether or not they will release future games region free, and maybe, just maybe releasing games stateside. So I ask, no, I beg and plead with you, pre-order this game and give it the support it deserves. Cave makes some of the best games out there, and myself and countless others would love to see more of these sweet juicy gems come our way.

Policenauts Retrospective

Posted by Brian On September - 22 - 2009

He's such a dream boat!

As you may have heard, Hideo Kojima’s Policenauts received a English fan translation in April of this year. Although I am a part of RetroWare TV, it in no way colors my judgement towards their newest video series covering this coveted and highly regarded game. This three part series covers many aspects of the game’s creation, storyline, and much more. Part one has just been released exclusively on RetroWare TV’s website. As an avid fan of Kojima’s work, I am excited to see this game not only being translated, but also the proper attention and coverage it deserves. Even in part one, you can see a lot of care and detail went into this retrospective. I would highly recommend you check it out.

I personally have not had the chance to play the game, but rest assured, as soon as I’m able to, I’ll be right in the middle of it all. For now, this will wet my appetite until I can fully savor the awesomesauce that is Policenauts.

September Free Play

Posted by Brian On September - 17 - 2009

Treasure loves me

The first Free Play was a big hit. Now it’s time for round two. For September’s Free Play, we’re gonna make it even easier to enter. Not only will you be able to enter by posting comments on the website, but also on our Youtube page.

Since Free Play is all about giving games away, we want you to tell us your worst video game give away or trade. Did you sell your copy of Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker for $3 at a Pawn Shop? Lend your copy of Ikaruga to your cousin never to see it again? Trade your friend a copy of Symphony of the Night for his brand new copy of Wii Music? Whatever it is, tell us your story. Like I said, post a comment here or on our Youtube video, which will be uploaded in the next few days, and you’ll be set.

Of course this is all for nothing if there’s no game involved. This month we’re giving away a game we reviewed in Substance TV episode 8. Not just any game. We’re giving away a brand new, sealed copy of Astro Boy: The Omega Factor for the Gameboy Advance. Since the episode, copies of this game have been harder and harder to find, but fear not, this could be your chance.

Deadline is 12:00 A.M. October 1st so get to it and best of luck!

The rebirth of Substance TV

Posted by Brian On September - 12 - 2009

The time has come

Although updates on the site have been sporadic, there’s been a lot going on behind the scenes in preparation for the upcoming tenth episode of Substance TV. But this isn’t just another episode, this is the rebirth of Substance TV as you know it.

I’ve received a lot of questions surrounding this change. It’s been in the making these past few months, and Erik and I are proud to announce Substance TV episode ten will be released October 10th, 2009. As I’ve stated before, there will be some major changes. I’ve been a bit silent on the exact details, and although I can’t tell you everything, I will announce a few things:
