Nintendo 3DS a failure?

Posted by Brian On September - 30 - 2010

Yes it does

At this year’s E3, Nintendo stole the show. The crown jewel being the Nintendo 3DS. A new technology allowing the user to experience 3D without the use of glasses on a portable system! Not to mention the laundry list of big name titles slated for the system. As the weeks went by, my anticipation grew. Each tid bit of information more exciting than the last.

But today came a revelation that effectively crippled the system. It wasn’t the games, hardware, or interface. It was the price point. The system will debut early next year for $300. Three hundred dollars?! That’s a lot of coin (three 1-ups to be exact). So why all the fuss? I’m glad you asked… Read the rest of this epic article! »

Asura’s Wrath = Space Buddha Finger of Death

Posted by Brian On September - 24 - 2010

DO NOT PULL IT

Like the bone breaking punches from this trailer, Asura’s Wrath hit me from out of nowhere. Developed by Cyberconnect 2 (developers of the .hack series and laundry list of Naruto games) and published by Capcom.

The trailer itself looks epic with enough punching, violence, and teeth bearing angry screams to make Dragon Ball Z blush. You even face against a ginormous space Buddha who’s very finger is the size of a country. Sounds like a party to me.

The game will use the Unreal 3 Engine. I’m also really digging the art style and character designs.

No release date has been set, but I’m interested to see what CyberConnect2 can do outside the confine of RPGs and anime adaptations.

Devil May Cry 5: Rant #245

Posted by Brian On September - 23 - 2010

I am so emo

With the whirlwind of controversy surrounding the newest Devil May Cry, the consensus seems split on what to make of this new direction. While there have been some good points made on both sides, I think many glaring issues have gone largely unaddressed. First, let us cover the burning issues… Read the rest of this epic article! »

The Killabration Recap

Posted by Brian On September - 22 - 2010

It is done

First and foremost, thanks to all the viewers who joined Erik and I for our very first Killabration. It was an interesting experiment in gaming, and for our first time, things went much better than we hoped.

Things started off a bit early with a special edition of Extra Joy! going over some of the details of the upcoming volume 1 of Substance TV. It was then quickly onto the killin’. I can’t believe how many games we went through. I’m still trying to make up a list of what we played. Even with all the games we went through, we still didn’t get through all the games on the list. Too many I tell ya. Balancing chatting with the viewers while playing was harder then expected (all while at least trying to be mildly entertaining). While most of the games were co-op, there were some versus matches that were epic (POWERSTONGA!). I also had no idea how many types of “braitions” there were. From Belmontbrations, beastabrations, and even brationbrations, I can say our viewers are a creative bunch.

But at about 1:30 in the morning, after five and a half hours of killin’, Erik and I had killed all we could. So we put away our tools of destruction and hit that old dusty trail. We’ll certainly have to do this again. Again, thanks to everyone who stopped by and hung out. There were many who stayed for the whole time! We really do have some amazing fans who make us proud to play games.

If you want to check out the entire Killabraton, it will be up on Justin.tv for the next few days. I’m in the process of somehow downloading the entire thing for archive purposes and a possible upload to YouTube.

BTW: Make sure to also check out an awesome guy on Justin.tv who makes our cast look like dookie. I’m talking about none of then MANvsGAME and his cast of epicness. You won’t regret it. Not only is he a sexy beast, but he risks his life every night to battle against games!

It all goes down Saturday September 18th. There will be a special edition of Extra Joy! premiering on Youtube that afternoon with Brian and the return of Erik! Then at 8 PM CST, we start up the killing machine with a whole night of video gaming until the wee hours of the morning on Justin.tv. From NES to PS3, we’re gonna play it all. Oh yes, and the majority of the gaming will be co-op, with some versus to keep things interesting. We’ll be chatting it up with the viewers and bashing in skulls. So set the date and come join us for the fun. We’ll even be doing some online gaming both co-op and versus for those interested in joining in on the fun.

BTW: We’ll also be revealing some juicy details about Substance TV Vol. 1 exclusively during the Killabration.

Mortal Monday: Seventeen years later

Posted by Brian On September - 13 - 2010

TOASTY

On the eve of Halo Reach, arguably the biggest release this year, thoughts of another big release come to mind. On September 23rd, 1993, a marketing campaign unlike any seen before in video game history was unleashed upon the world. It would be forever known as “Mortal Monday”. In this writer’s book, not even the hype machine behind Halo Reach will ever match Mortal Monday. Think I’m crazy? Let’s take a stroll down memory lane… Read the rest of this epic article! »
