Growing up, Erik and I enjoyed watching video game review shows such as good old GamePro TV (cheesy, but it was what we had back then). In the year 2006, the world of video game reviews would change forever with the advent of YouTube. Now everyday joes could do a video game review. Problem was most of these shows sucked hard.
The basic formula for these “shows” is as follows: A kid on a grainy webcam talking through a Radio Shack mic about games. Worse still were shows featuring people acting as these wild and crazy characters reviewing games. I’m all for fun, but these were not a true review show. Instead of focusing on reviewing the game, it was all about pure entertainment. Granted, there were a handful of good shows. Even then, every show covered the same games we all know about. Where were those hidden gems? So instead of complaining, we figured we’d do something about it.
And so began Substance TV.
Substance TV is a show dedicated to reviewing the very best in video games from old to new. You’ll see reviews of games you know and love, but you’ll also see reviews of games you never knew existed. It’s time to bring back the video game review show, but this time by gamers, for gamers. Every episode we try and create the most well produced professional show. Our other goal is to inform and pass on vital information such as who developed the game, who composed the soundtrack, and the history of the series. For too long reviews have been about just entertainment without any substance, hence the name. Of course being two individuals who enjoy games, we have our odd side which naturally carries into the show via good old fashioned random humor. From time to time, Substance TV will feature other videos such as parodies or other funny (at least to us) videos.
We originally started this website in 2007 as a way to make high quality versions of our show available to download, but it turned into much more. We’ve expanded to writing articles about gaming culture, news, and information you might not find elsewhere. We’re also proud of the little community of fans who dig the show and post in the forums. Without these fine folks, there’d be no need for this wall o’ text now would there.
Unbelievable to most, Substance TV is based out of Wichita, Kansas. I know, something other than wheat and cow pies comes out of this flat state.
So we invite you to enjoy the gooey goodness of Substance TV.
