As I’ve stated before, I’m not on the cutting edge of all things indie gaming. In fact I wouldn’t have known about games like The Binding of Isaac had I not seen them on MANvsGAME’s cast (which by the way you should be following if you’re not already).
Now that my indie credibility has all but been discredited let me tell you about a little game by the name of Project Black Sun. Or better yet why don’t I let the developer Starflower Games tell you about it:
The hero is doing his daily jogging routine until misfortune happens and he ends up in abandoned mines. He tries to figure out the path to get out of there and the game idea is just about that get out of the place, defeat bosses along the way and collecting skills and stuff.
Project Black Sun is a 2-D game inspired by classics like Super Metroid and Castlevania with a dash of survival horror. Well elements of survival horror without the horror. It’s certainly a survival game as it you have weapons with ammo, and sometimes that ammo can be hard to find. Add to that the game can be difficult at times. The atmosphere also adds a dash of tense fear about what’s around the next corner. So let’s call it a survival mildly tense Metroidvania.
With all the comparisons between classic games like Castlevania and Metroid, could this indie title really live up to all the hype?
