How Well Can Penny-Arcade Sell Out?

This is something myself and Brian have both been keeping an eye on since the Penny-Arcade community is not only huge.. but yet how hard PA made fun of Kickstarter… and how bad they were going to sell out.

With their final push happening today (23 hours left when this was being written) they stood at $480,000 raised with the Kickstarter goal being set at $250,000 and the endgame of $525,000 in mind. So why raise the money? They wanted to say screw it and get rid of their ads, and be funded solely by their fans, for their fans. I think it’s a cool idea, but right off the bat I was doubtful if they’d get the full half a mil.

Time’s shown however that you should never doubt the true fanbase of something, as they can do amazing things. Myself and Brian both just watched that number climb.. and climb.. and climb.. At one point, I threw in some money to help them myself while Brian just shook his head and laughed at me, but whatever I’m gonna have an art print and it’s gonna be amazing.

But what about the other perks? Some of the things they’re doing are straight up absurd and hilarious. Perks ranging from watching Gabe chase a duck while yelling out your name, and thinking about you during intercourse, to 5 years of PAX passes and a shirt a month club, to the high baller perks of having lunch with them and even hanging out at PA HQ.

There’s not much else to say other than congrats to the Gabe and Tycho for pulling this off, and I look forward to see what they do with the money if they don’t make the goal because knowing these guys they’ll do something completely amazing regardless.
