Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Pre-E3 Trailer Impressions

As you might have heard Konami broadcasted a special pre-E3 show esxclusively on GameTrailers. And while there was some interesting info about Metal Gear being in the Smithsonian, Zone of the Enders HD collection, and a small tease about the next Metal Gear Solid game, the rest was a big pile of “meh” for me. But for myself and many other we were patiently waiting for more info on the upcoming Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. And oh did we get an eyeful of bloody goodness.

I was already sold on getting Revengeance the day of release. After watching this trailer, I’m past sold. Whatever the term for past being sold is, I’m that times a thousand. We were shown some more detail of the cutting mechanic and I gotta say, Raiden cuts things up nice and good.

I also can’t tell you how refreshing it was to hear from multiple team members at Platinum Games and Kojima Productions how important the actual game mechanics were. Repeatedly the phrases “how the game plays” or “gameplay” were used when describing the experience. They want to continue to perfect their craft and become the best action game studio in the world.

We’ll show you some Metal Gear Rising Revengence with our trailer video, but at its’ core this is an action game. So you won’t be able to experience it or really understand how good it feels until you actually play it.

- Yuji Korekado – Creative Producer, Kojima Productions

It’s quotes like the one above that make me even more pumped for the game. These guys know how to create the best action game on the planet and they showed it with this trailer. It’s funny because right after they showcased the actual in game footage of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance they played an all CG trailer for the new Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. Needles to say I wasn’t impressed. Sure put all the cool looking CG you want to, but how does the game actually play and feel?

It’s that kind of mentality the separates a AAA developer like Platinum Games and a bottom of the barrel developer like Mercury Stream. Oh how 2013 can’t get here soon enough! Those of you attending E3 will get the chance to play the game (I hate you in a loving way). Here’s the entire Konami pre-E3 video. If you came here for Revengeance, just skip to 15:12.
