Pixel Nation: One Nation Under Retro Games

There’s nothing like the feeling of glossy paper stock fluttering between your fingers as you flip through the pages of a game magazine. Critics and cynics may declare printed media antiquated and dead, but as they say in Soul Calibur “The Soul Still Burns”. Magazines like ‘Retro Gamer’ are a perfect example of how a printed magazine can still be successful in this digital era.

So I welcome anyone who joins the fray to keep this fading medium alive. Enter ‘Pixel Nation’: A quarterly gaming magazine in full colour on printed glossy pages with fantastic quality to touch and packed with articles/exclusive interviews in a handy A5 book size. There is also a PDF version as well for all those who prefer to read it on tablets, PC’s etc. Ironically like Retro Gamer this magazine hails from the UK. What is it about the UK that makes them want to publish retro gaming magazines? Makes us yanks look like a bunch of grotty gits.

Pixel Nation is an organically created, independently run company, celebrating all that is positive and unique about the limited edition print medium.

From what I’ve seen so far I’m very optimistic. The quality of the articles and overall design shows promise especially seeing as they are only two issues in. I’ve order a couple of magazines to check them out for myself and will give you the full run down in a few weeks. Until then do yourself a favor and check them out at: pixel-nation.co.uk and see what all the fuss is about.
