Team Ninja says no to Dead or Alive 5 DLC

Yosuke Hayashi and Yohei Shimbori have confirmed they have no plans to release downloadable characters for Dead or Alive 5. Part of their reasoning was because they felt allowing DLC characters would have an impact on the game and balance.

We feel like this is a kind of sport, and you don’t change the rules for sports. Everybody plays by the same rules. You don’t have a 14-player soccer game versus an 11-player soccer game. That’s just not fair.

- Yosuke Hayashi, Head of Team Ninja

In a day in age where companies release half finished games for sixty bucks then nickel and dime consumers for the rest of the game via DLC, it’s nice to see a company like Temco and a developer like Team Ninja take the high road.

I for one am glad to hear this. A stark contrast to Capcom’s DLC BS with Street Fighter IV, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Tekken vs. Street Fighter. Who knows, this might even give DOA5 the upper hand and pick up some of the jaded/disenfranchised fighting game fans.
